today has been a good day. not quite sure why seeing i’m here. in kolej yayasan uem. in the middle of nowhere. where the nearest town pretty much doesn’t have anything. where the surroundings seem dead. where the people are unbelievably kiasu. where the subjects are getting harder. where i just failed a math test.
nevertheless, jolly good day it was.
being a thursday, we had our first drama rehearsal on stage today. tuesday was just the read through in a classroom. but today we went on stage! on stage! learned stage directions. center left, downstage right, upstage left all that jazz. it was fun. ok that’s an understatement. ITWASOMGOMGOMGSOMUCHFUN AND I CANT WAIT TILL NEXT TUESDAY FOR THE NEXT REHEARSAL. mr hanson who’s also my house tutor is directing it and he’s really good, honestly, he can pull off a one man show.
so yeah, before every semester break, the college will put up a production so the parents come, and the next day they can take us home, i think. so far we’ve had one mid-semester break, and we put up a production called ‘Cultural Performance’, and every year it’s the same and it’s become a sort of tradition here. so for the next break, there’ll be an english theatre play organized by the the mat salleh mat salleh teachers, and for the break after that, a malay production called bangsawan. so it’s pretty interesting and productive.
this year, the play is called “frankensteins guests”, and there are nine characters in total. there’s Baron Von Frankenstein, played by Irshad, his wife the Baroness who’s an alchoholic (played by Julie), Frau Lurker a mad chef who tries to shoo away every guest that comes by the castle (played by Aainaa), Ygor who’s deformed and has a hunched back (played by a senior, Nadhirah), Countess Ilona Bathory (played by me!), Count Dracula (played by a senior, Han), Harry Talbot a werewolf (played by ting), The Phantom of the Opera (played by Jeeven), and Isabel, the singer in the phantom of the opera? (played by Syamim). fuhh. so yeah!! it’s super fun because the whole gang bang minus athirah who’s doing props is performing.
the play is about Baron, who has guests come over his place, and each guest needs help from him. like for my part, the countess doesn’t want to be a vampire anymore because she feels horrible and miserable all the time. the werewolf feels the same. then count dracula whos the countess’ love interest follows her to the castle and tells the baron that he doesn’t want to be a vampire anymore because of his love for her. Isabel wants to shake off the phantom of the opera because he keeps bugging her. so imagine, a house full of villians and everybody’s just running all over the place. it’s way fun i tell you.
can’t wait for the next rehearsal and there’s like 15 mins left in my laptop. so i better doze off. so sorry if the post seems kind of rushed. no battery left.
yay tomorrow’s friday then comes saturday and i get to go home and shower and shit and eat good food, and yeah talk to alwi!whee.
